Uganda – the Pearl of Africa

When Winston Churchill visited Uganda in 1907, he called it the Pearl of Africa. I have not seen all the African countries and it is difficult for me to verify Sir Winston’s words, but certainly Uganda is a country with stunning nature and a very difficult history. How difficult – enough to say that Uganda’s neighbors are the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and recently South Sudan. When we were near the Congo or Rwandan border, the number of assurances we received at every step from the Ugandan rangers did not calm us down, but it made us assume that the borders were still turbulent.

Besides, Uganda itself has many bloody pages in its history, to mention Idi Amin, a bloody dictator who declared himself the Last King of Scotland. The disgusting career of the former boxer and absolute ruler of Uganda, considered one of the bloodiest dictators in the history of the world, is still in people’s memory here. Ugandans tend to cut off the topic when the conversation moves towards the “Butcher of Uganda”, they do not want to talk about the man who knew best how to raise goats and murder people.

Uganda is an underdeveloped country with a very rapid birth rate, poor economy, education and medicine. Definitely the treasure of Uganda is its nature and in particular white rhinos and mountain gorillas, I really wanted to see these animals, both species are threatened with extinction. In addition to gorillas and rhinos, there is no shortage of elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes and antelopes in Uganda. Especially in Queen Elizabeth National Park, you can see all the big five. I succeeded. I invite you to a short story about Uganda.
